Hello to everyone. My name is Daniel.I am 14 years old and I will be posting in this blog along with the youngweatherman.
On to the preliminary winter outllok for 08-09.
I will be forecasting for the Northeast, Mid -atlantic, and ohio valley.
As many of you know last winter was dominated by a moderate to strong la nina which brought a mild winter for a good part of the U.S and southern Canada. Along with the milder-than-normal conditions snow fall was generally below normal for a good part of the U.S except for the rockies and especially the Great Lakes/Midwest where snow fall reached near-record to record territiory.Madison Wisconsin broke their record with 100.4 inches. Youngweatherman and I had the winter of our lifetime last year here in Toronto. We had storm after storm after storm and the city was running out of places to put the snow. This winter I am expecting the ENSO to be neutral to perhaps a weak la nina by January or Feburary. With that said I am expecting a colder than normal winter for a good part of canada and at least the northern and central u.s. along with near to above normal snowfall. Cities such as Calgary ,Regina ,and Winnipeg should get more snow than last winter where there was a snow drought in the prairies. Here in southern ontario I don't expect as much snow as last winter but I still think it will be a little above average. The main storm track this winter will be south of the great lakes and near the east coast. I also think that at times the sub-tropical jet will kick in and produce some very heavy snowstorms for the great lakes and mid atlantic states particulary for Feburary and March. I will update this forecast in early october.
